Webb Simpson capped an amazing week at the TPC Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra, FL with victory at the Players Championship on Sunday. His superb all round play including his putting, where he gained 9.368 strokes on the field this past week, allowed him to win the Players Championship for the 1sttime, his 5thvictory on the PGA TOUR and his first since 2013.
With this win, Webb joined a special club, becoming one of only 9 players to have won the US Open and Players Championship. He dedicated the victory to his mother Debbie, which was special considering his victory came on Mother’s Day, the last time the Players will be finish on this day with its move in the schedule in 2019 (He won his US Open victory on Fathers Day!).
Webb posted scores of 66, 63, 68 and 73 to win by 4 shots from fellow 4sports & Entertainment athletes, Charl Schwartzel and Jimmy Walker. The win earned Simpson $1.98m but also moved him to 8thon the FedEx Cup standings and up twenty one positions on the Official World Golf Rankings to 20thin the world.
