Paul Dunne fired a final round 61, with an impressive overall score of -20, to hold off Rory Mcilroy and win the British Masters at Close House. A flawless round included an eagle on the par 5 sixth hole, as he finished birdie, birdie to seal the victory in style. The win earnt him £500,000, and moved him up to 88th in the World Rankings, and 12th on the Race To Dubai a career best. It also secures a European Tour card for the next 2 seasons.
Speaking after the win Dunne said, “I’ve come close before so it’s nice to get the demon off my back,” he told Sky Sports. “The highlight of my round was the putt I made on the 17th to make a birdie . . . once I holed that I knew it was pretty much mine.” Paul now plays the final run of events on the European Tour schedule, including the final WGC of the year in China.
