Irish golfer Paul Dunne announced he has signed a long term, exclusive representation contract with 4SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT, the leading Swiss sports management agency.
Paul's decision to turn professional follows an impressive amateur career recently highlighted by reaching the quarterfinals at the US Amateur, and being a member of the triumphant GB&I Walker Cup team. Paul played an instrumental role in the team’s memorable 7-point victory over the USA by securing a half point in his singles match on the final green, clinching victory for the GB&I team.
Paul from Greystones, in the Republic of Ireland, is widely viewed as one of the most exciting young golfers of the modern generation. In recent months, the 22 year old has captured the hearts and imagination of the golfing world, most notably by his performance at the 144th Open Championship. Paul won the final qualifying at Woburn for a second consecutive year, and went on to St Andrews and produced two opening rounds of 69. After a 3rd round 66, he became the youngest amateur in 88 years to hold the 54 hole lead, and played in the final group on Sunday in front of a global audience.
Paul spent the last four years competing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where alumni include fellow Irishman Graeme McDowell. He has competed at the highest level in the US, finishing 5th in the NCAA collegiate championships and twice earning NCAA All-American honors while at UAB. Aside from his achievements in America, Paul was a member of the winning 2014 European Palmer Cup team and was a prominent member of the Irish National team throughout his amateur career. Paul was also the Irish Boys champion in 2008 and 2009 and won the Irish Youths Championship in 2010.
Paul's professional career will begin at the European Tour Qualifying School in Austria, followed by starts at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the British Masters and Portugal Masters on the European Tour. On starting his professional career, Paul commented, ‘I am really excited to begin this next chapter in my golf career. I am turning professional after a great summer, highlighted by the Open Championship and most recently being part of the winning Walker Cup team, both events which I will remember for a long time. I look forward to working with the 4SPORTS team, and feel confident they will give me the support and advice I need to progress due to their experience and international presence.’
